NEW MASSACHUSETTS SMOKE DETECTOR REGULATIONS

By Scott A. Joseph, December 6, 2016

Effective December 1, 2016, new Massachusetts regulations require smoke alarms to be photoelectric or a combination of photoelectric and ionization with a hush button. These new units come with a sealed 10 year battery that does not require replacing, but sends an alert when the unit is expiring. In order to comply, smoke detectors that are more than ten years old or those without an expiration date must be replaced.
